Dubai Municipality is set to start work on the community centre project in Al Barsha region of the emirate. The facility, which will be coming up on a 5,500-sq-m area of land, will be ready by mid-2019.
The Al Barsha Community Centre, being established with the joint co-operation of the Community Development Authority, has been approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality.
The project, which will boast a built up space of 14,500 sq m, is being built at a cost of Dh60 million ($16.3 million) at Al Barsha 2, reported state news agency Wam.
The building, with a basement, ground floor and two upper floors, will be located in the service area allocated to the residential area for nationals in Al Barsha, said the report citing a top official.
"The basement parking will be able to accommodate 108 cars, while the ground floor will house a reception counter, a multi-purpose hall, which can be divided into five small halls, a 100-seat theatre, a gallery, men's and ladies' prayer rooms and a separate service entrance with all the required facilities," revealed Hussain Nasser Lootah, the director-general of Dubai Municipality.
The first floor will comprise of areas for practicing hobbies such as painting, clay modeling and handcrafts, classes for learning cooking and music, a library with children’s section for them to learn drawing, reading and computer, he stated.
The second-floor will accommodate a sports area with related service facilities, separate toilets, swimming pools and gyms for men and women, a lounge for electronic games, a cafeteria and administrative offices for the staff, he added.
